However, when gambling shifts from a leisure activity to a compulsive habit, it morphs into a disorder known as gambling disorder. This disorder is a behavioural addiction, similar to drug or alcohol addiction, where the person has an uncontrollable urge to gamble despite understanding the negative consequences it might bring.
